Careful attention to content and structure is the key, she
says, to the success of any program that seeks to develop a
set of skills and abilities. "Vocal pedagogy is rich with
ideas and technique from several schools of thought, and it
is a delightful task to find the best in each of them".
Monika Cosson-Sheppard, mezzo
soprano, hails from Florida and
attended Loyola University in New
Orleans where she studied with
Ellen Frohnmayer.
Charlotte A. Sandelin, educator,
mezzo soprano, is a specialist in
education and music programming.
With degrees in both education and
music, Charlotte has developed
programs for ages 2 through adult.
Artistic Director
Program Director
Charlotte's approach to vocal instruction is holistic. She
believes that for artistic singing to occur, the areas of
musical, intellectual, emotional, and physical expression
must be integrated. Her method is to coordinate correct
technique with interpretation to achieve the most satisfying
results. She uses the song approach which she says
"captures the student's interest and expressive nature.
Appropriate repertoire is the best and most central means
for the developing the singer's voice, confidence level, and
performance skills".
Monika has sung the roles of Fiordiligi (Cosi Fan
Tutte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), High Priestess
(Aida), Cronie (Ballad of Baby Doe), Flora (La
Traviata), Lisa (I due Timidi), with Loyola University,
New Orleans Opera, Jefferson Parish Performing Arts
Society and the Santa Fe Opera.
She began her teaching career as a member of the music
faculty at Trinidad State Junior College where she
maintained a busy performance schedule of solo and
ensemble work, while teaching and directing student
productions.

Program developed by Charlotte
Choral work has remained a primary activity, including
solo and chorister parts with the Collegium Musicum
(Santa Fe), the Chorus of Santa Fe, the NAU Oratorio
Chorus, the Flagstaff Master Chorale and Symphony
Chorus, and most recently with the Santa Fe Symphony
Chorus.
Charlotte has developed other unique educational
programs for both children and adults. The most notable of
these programs is an accredited, progressive, early
childhood program in Flagstaff, Arizona, now in it's 16th
successful year.
As a featured concert artist Monika has appeared with:
the Superior Music Festival, Marquette, Michigan; the
University of Southern Mississippi; conductor Victor
Yampolsky and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra
on their Classic Series; the Santa Fe Desert Chorale;
Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico; the Sangre De Cristo
Chorale; Canticum Novum; the Santa Fe Men's
Camerata.
A student of Nina Hinson, Ms. Cosson-Sheppard resides
in Santa Fe where she teaches voice at the Santa Fe
University of Art & Design, directs the Children's Music
program at Holy faith Episcopal Church, and maintains
a private voice studio. Monika's teaching method is
based on classical technique and experience in a variety
of genres. She places emphasis on tonal beauty and
expression, to create a voice that is even throughout, and
polished in style and interpretation. Her students learn
to apply the principles of healthy vocal production to all
types of music in a supportive, inspiring environment.
Professional and commercial recordings include: the
Gregg Smith Singers; 'Noches' on the Newport Classic
label; Sangre de Cristo's 'Dona Nobis Pacem'; the Santa
Fe Desert Chorale's 'First Day' on the Clarion label
